Demonstrate compliance in a competitive industry through renewable energy certifications
Product certifications help support safe products and give stakeholders confidence in the products they source and their partners within the renewables value chain. UL, as a globally respected third-party certification provider, helps you demonstrate compliance, access global markets and stand out from the competition in an increasingly competitive industry.
As safety science experts, UL helps our customers navigate compliance complexity and mitigate risks for solar and onshore and offshore wind farms around the world. Through certification for products, projects and grid code regulatory requirements, UL certification demonstrates compliance and builds confidence in the reliability of renewable energy technology. To further streamline the process, after approval our data acceptance programs enable you to use test data from your own facilities when pursuing certification with UL, and we can often work with you on your time schedule and in your local language.
Globally-recognized support for onshore wind energy certification
UL’s certifications and test reports for solar are recognized by regulatory bodies around the world. The expertise and global reach of our technical teams enable us to offer integrated test plans to assess products to the requirements of multiple standards.
UL is also a member of several major national and international committees that are shaping the future of wind energy, including:
- IEC – International Electrotechnical Commission
- IECRE – International Electrotechnical Commission Renewable Energy
- AWEA – US National Standards Development
- DKE – Deutsche Kommission Elektrotechnik Elektronik-Informationstechnik in DIN und VDE
- DPInst – Committee of German Certification Bodies for Wind Turbines
- BSH – German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency
- FGW – Federation of German Windpower and other Renewable Energies
Solutions for the unique needs of offshore wind certification
Compared to onshore wind farms, offshore installations remain more complex in terms of structural design, installation and maintenance. Sites farther from the coast demand thorough development and planning of the turbine, its components and the entire wind farm to demonstrate that it is a worthwhile investment.
We have pioneered research in the offshore environment and gathered knowledge and expertise from various offshore projects. Though the certification process for offshore wind turbines and components is similar to onshore installations, additional technical requirements may need to be integrated in the testing and, if applicable, certification process. Similarly, the foundations for offshore turbines are often designed for specific projects, and UL offers assessment of construction documents and interpretation of existing rules and guidelines to help you establish an adequate, cost-efficient design.
