Energy Systems (and products with integrated Energy Systems) such as electric vehicles, energy storage systems, self-balancing scooters (hoverboards), and grid-interactive inverters commonly utilize embedded electronics and software. Increasingly, these embedded electronics and software are performing functions that help maintain safe operation of the product (i.e. Functional Safety). UL evaluates and tests safety-related embedded electronics and software to Functional Safety standards such as UL 991, UL 1998, UL 60730-1 and IEC 61508.

The webinar covers the following areas:

  • The “What, Why and How” of Functional Safety
  • Determining if a Functional Safety evaluation is necessary
  • Hardware requirements (e.g., UL 991)
  • Software requirements (e.g., UL 1998)
