As an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) accredited Conformity Assessment Body, UL provides independent, accredited third-party manufacturing and process assessments against defined standards. Our Supplier Quality Audits and Certifications program helps minimize supply chain risk, protect brand value and promote consumer and product safety.

Our Supplier Quality Audits and Certifications help you build and monitor quality systems within the global consumer market supply chain, with an expert focus on products in the food, drug and cosmetic retail industries. 

Retailers, importers, buyers and suppliers use our independent third-party audit and accredited certification systems to demonstrate compliance with due diligence, customer requirements and international quality, safety and legal standards.

UL’s key supplier quality services include:   

  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) – we help manufacturers, packagers and distribution centers demonstrate conformance to ISO standards, the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and regional requirements through GMP certification and audit services. 
  • Retail Certification Program (RCP), ANAB and ANSI Accredited Scheme – certification under this program helps supply chains meet the requirements of multiple retailers through a single annual assessment, reducing redundant audit activities and costs. 
  • National Brand Certification Program (NBCP), ANAB and ANSI Accredited Scheme – NBCP certification enables national brands to differentiate themselves through independent, third-party certification of their supply chain.
  • UL and Natural Products Association (NPA) Certification Program, an ANAB and ANSI Accredited Program – we have partnered with NPA, the nation’s largest trade organization representing natural products, to create a Good Manufacturing Practices Certification Program to help verify the quality and safety of dietary supplements.
  • Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification Scheme, ANSI Accredited – UL’s accredited SQF certification helps the food supply chain to maintain a robust food safety management system and minimize product safety-related risks.
  • Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) – UL’s FSMA assessment is designed to assist farms and facilities worldwide to address food safety and compliance with U.S. food regulations to minimize food safety risks. UL’s assessments enable organizations to understand and prepare to implement U.S. food regulations.
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) Certification – UL offers third-party HACCP certification to help prevent product contamination and reduce production risks to a reasonably safe level.

Licensed and approved supplier quality training

UL is a licensed, approved training center for multiple schemes, standards, and industries. Training is offered either off-site or on-site, helping companies and individual employees obtain the necessary knowledge to implement and improve systems, processes, procedures and programs. Our offerings include:

  • Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) – UL is a Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) and International Food Protection Training Institute (IFPTI) accredited training provider
  • Internal auditor training
  • Third-party auditor training
  • GMP training
  • Quality system training
  • HACCP training

(UL VS USA) understands the importance of performing its management system certification activities impartially, including established policies and procedures to manage conflict of interest and ensure objectivity in the certification process. UL Verification Services, Inc. (UL VS USA) does not provide management system consulting.

UL Verification Services, Inc. (UL VS USA) is financially funded by the fees charged to the facilities for the management system, services and processes for which certification is provided. Fees are charged for the initial certification process and for ongoing surveillance.

As a certification body meeting ISO/IEC 17065 requirements we cannot participate in the design, manufacture, installation or distribution of the systems, processes, and services we certify. Nor can we link our activities to the activities of organizations that provide those systems, processes or services.
