Certification and verification options

UL Solutions offers multiple pathways for communications cable testing, certification and verification depending on what you need to demonstrate. These options are designed to help you mitigate risk, support compliance expectations and build confidence in your products.

UL Certification Mark for communications cables

Cables certified by UL Solutions are distinguished with the UL Certification Mark, an industry recognized and trusted Mark. Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) require third-party certification so cabling meets safety, performance and flammability standards, and the Mark helps signal that your product has undergone comprehensive evaluation.

The UL Certification Mark signals alignment to the safety standards outlined in UL 444, Standard for Safety of Communications Cables, which is a binational consensus Standard for the U.S. and Canada. It also helps to drive confidence and trust in your brand and differentiate products in the marketplace.

Letter report service

UL Solutions offers a letter report for manufacturers who need validation of specific product features or attributes without pursuing full certification. The report documents results of tests conducted solely on the items provided by the customer, and it does not constitute certification or imply the tested items represent ongoing production.

Certified cable performance verification

UL Solutions can verify transmission performance in accordance with national or international specifications (DVBI category). This option supports manufacturers who need performance verification in addition to safety and compliance considerations.

FAQs

Telecommunications testing applies to communications cable used in building networks and infrastructure, including copper and fiber optic products such as plenum (CMP), riser (CMR) and general purpose (CM) constructions. Testing supports safety, performance and market requirements.

UL’s communications cable program covers these building use cases: plenum (CMP) for air‑handling spaces, riser (CMR) for vertical riser shafts and CM for general‑purpose pathways. Associated flame tests include NFPA 262 for plenum and UL 1666 for riser evaluations.

The UL Certification Mark indicates that a cable has undergone independent evaluation to applicable standards such as UL 444. Certification, plus follow‑up inspections and market surveillance, helps reduce risk for all stakeholders and strengthens confidence in the supply chain.

A letter report is positioned for manufacturers who need validation of specific product features or attributes without pursuing full certification. The page notes the report documents test results only for items provided by the customer and does not constitute certification or imply ongoing production representation.
