Full-service offerings for water treatment certification

Water treatment is essential to providing clean and safe drinking water throughout the water supply and distribution system and within the built environment. Treatment products and chemical manufacturers must continue to innovate as concerns grow over both well-known and emerging contaminants and utilities pursue better or more cost-effective ways to deliver water.

Our collaborative approach helps you identify a clear direction forward and gain a deeper understanding of what you need to find success in this market, from municipal water treatment solutions to consumer-grade water filters and purifiers.

Health effects compliance services

We offer expertise that helps manufacturers, blenders, repackagers and transfer facilities meet national and local requirements, along with customer expectations. Our services can also help you demonstrate compliance with NSF/ANSI/CAN 60, the standard for Drinking Water Treatment Chemicals – Health Effects.

We test numerous chemical categories, including:

  • Coagulants and flocculants
  • Corrosion and scale control
  • Disinfection and oxidation
  • pH adjustment
  • Precipitation
  • Sequestering
  • Softening
  • Well drilling aides

UL Solutions can evaluate various types of treatment media, including sand, gravel, garnet, activated carbon and ion exchange resin. If these products are used in water supply and distribution or at the point-of-entry in a building, we conduct a material safety evaluation to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61. If used in point-of-use water treatment devices, our experts can work with you to determine the applicable water treatment standard, such as NSF/ANSI 44 or NSF/ANSI 42.

We also offer testing for toxins, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), or “forever chemicals,” and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS). Concerns about the impact of PFAS on the environment and human health have led to increased attention from the public, governments, and technical committees responsible for safety and environmental standards.
