Water Systems Testing, Inspection and Certification

For increasingly advanced water systems, our expert team can test, inspect, and certify essential materials, products, and innovative technologies that deliver water from municipal pipes to your glass.

Water system.

Access to potable water is a critical part of everyday life. That’s why all water-contacting materials and products, from the water source to the tap, must undergo thorough evaluation to help ensure that harmful chemicals, metals and microorganisms do not contaminate the water we drink.

UL Solutions is your consolidated source for globally respected water systems certifications. We offer a broad range of comprehensive services to test, inspect and certify the essential materials, products and technologies that deliver water through municipal pipes all the way to your water glass.

Certifying to NSF standards

Our expert team can certify to National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) standards under full American National Standards Institute (ANSI) National Accreditation Board and Standards Council of Canada accreditation. We can also evaluate your water system components and materials to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372, and we can analyze your water treatment chemicals to NSF/ANSI/CAN 60. Our comprehensive suite of services helps you address all your needs for certifying water system components, from source to tap.

A holistic approach for the digital age

With the rapid speed of innovation today, traditional pipes, fittings and valves are increasingly coupled with electrical meters and connected devices. This means modern plumbing equipment demands up-to-date compliance support.

UL Solutions understands the complexities of today’s interconnected water systems. We have the expertise to test, inspect and certify most new technologies for electrical safety, health effects, interoperability, cybersecurity and more.

Accessing global markets for better local support

UL Solutions has the flexibility to adapt to ever-evolving regulatory changes around the world — most notably across North America, the United Kingdom (U.K.) and the European Union (EU). We continue to open regional laboratories and testing facilities, allowing our customers to better address their local regulatory requirements.

Why look to UL Solutions?

When you rely on UL Solutions, you gain a single source for your crucial certifications. Our experts regularly work with standards established by:

  • NSF International
  • The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
  • The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO)
  • The ASSE International Chapter of IAPMO (ASSE)
  • The American Water Works Association (AWWA)
  • The CSA Group

Certifying to NSF standards

We test and certify water system components and plumbing products to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372, and water treatment chemicals to NSF/ANSI/CAN 60. We can also provide testing and certification to a variety of other NSF standards such as NSF 42, 44, 53 and 58.

These standards provide varying degrees of coverage. ANSI/CAN 60, for instance, covers the following product categories:

  • Coagulation and flocculation
  • Corrosion and scale control
  • Disinfection and oxidation
  • pH adjustment
  • Precipitation
  • Sequestering

Global market access

We can test and certify your products to standards around the world, helping you access the markets you need to reach your customers.

Highly responsive customer support

Our international presence and flexible turnaround times can help you access necessary services quickly so you can go to market faster.

Expertise in connected devices

As new technologies emerge, we can assess electrical safety, interoperability, cybersecurity, sustainability and more.

Compliance testing for changing regulations

Your existing certifications may not remain compliant as standards become more stringent. We test to evolving regulations, such as low lead changes, so you can demonstrate your compliance with new requirements.

Testing for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS)

We take public health seriously, so when formulations deem it necessary, we carefully test for “forever chemicals” and other toxins that can affect the safety of drinking water.

In short, we understand the importance of potable drinking water. That’s why we are so meticulous about offering our testing, inspection and certification services to the essential materials, products and technologies that deliver water to people everywhere.
