Global clothing and shoe manufacturers that make up the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals Group have jointly released an updated "road map" detailing their plans to list chemicals targeted for phase-out, international workforce training programs, and other actions they will take as part of their previously announced effort to encourage use of safer chemicals by 2020.
The Joint Roadmap: Version 2, includes numerous deadlines by which said they will accomplish these goals. The updated road map described the group's general strategy for selecting chemicals for phase-out and researching alternatives where none may currently exist.
By August 2013, the Zero Discharge Group said it will begin to release a methodology to identify and flag priority chemicals. The methodology and hazardous chemicals list will be updated at regular intervals, the new road map said.
By Dec. 31, 2013, the group will identify guidance and other documents in multiple languages that member companies will share with their supply chains to "increase awareness of chemical elimination and substitution," the updated road map said.
