On April 16, 2025, the European Commission published its 2024 report on Safety Gate, the European Rapid Alert system for dangerous non-food products.

This system enables the national authorities of EU member states to quickly exchange information about dangerous products, allowing the countries in the system to screen their markets and take appropriate actions.

Throughout 2024, 4,137 alerts were received in the system on measures taken against dangerous products — almost double the number of notifications received since 2022.

  • 35% Cosmetics
  • 15% Toys
  • 10% Electrical appliances and equipment
  • 9% Motor Vehicules
  • 6% Chemical Products
  • 24% Other product categories

In the alerts received, chemical risks were the most frequent type of risks reported at 49%, followed by injury-related risks at 14%, and environmental, choking and risks from electric shock.
