In a communication published on April 16, 2025, the European Commission adopted the first working plan for the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products and Energy Labelling that is to be implemented from 2025 to 2030.

The working plan identifies the first set of key priorities to implement the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR, Regulation (EU) 2024/1781).

The working plan includes four final products and two intermediate products:

Final products Intermediate products
  • Textiles, with a focus on apparel
  • Furniture
  • Tires
  • Mattresses
  • Iron and steel
  • Aluminum

These product categories were selected based on their potential to contribute to the EU’s climate, environmental and energy efficiency objectives. The Commission will now focus on creating performance and information-related requirements that align with the ESPR or these product categories.

The plan also includes two legal acts setting horizontal requirements for:

  • Repairability
  • Recycled content and recyclability of electrical and electronic equipment
