UL Solutions was honored with a 2025 Habitat Hero Award, which was presented by Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity and accepted by Jennifer Scanlon, president and CEO of UL Solutions, on behalf of the company, in recognition of its support and contributions to help the nonprofit organization achieve its vision in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Drawing about 400 guests to the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, the 10th annual Habitat Hero Award Dinner raised more than $1.1 million to build and repair affordable homes.
UL Solutions served as a Neighborhood Builder sponsor for this year’s dinner, and Alex Dadakis, executive vice president and chief business operations and innovation officer at UL Solutions, served as an event co-chair.
For 40 years, Habitat for Humanity has had a strong presence in the Chicago metropolitan area across seven counties. Chicagoland Habitat is a support organization for five local Habitat affiliates, helping to raise awareness, support capacity building and provide resources.
UL Solutions was recognized for partnering with Habitat for Humanity through volunteer efforts and charitable contributions that fund employee build days. The company has been active with multiple Habitat affiliates in the Chicago area for more than 15 years.
“When we think of safety, we often think of home,” Scanlon said. “And for us at UL Solutions, it’s where our values of safety, integrity, respect and growth intersect with Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity as we support their vision for ‘a world where everyone has a decent place to live.’ A safe home.”
Scanlon praised Habitat as a “transformative and life-changing organization,” adding that the volunteer efforts of UL Solutions employees “support Habitat’s mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope.”
Tony Gambell, a partner at McKinsey & Company, also was honored with a 2025 Habitat Hero Award at the June 12 event. For more than 25 years, he has supported Habitat in numerous ways, including volunteering to build houses.
According to Habitat, the dinner provided an opportunity to “toast the honorees and help celebrate the heroes that help Habitat for Humanity build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.”
The goals of Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity include “making housing affordable to hardworking people without access to conventional financing.” To learn more about the organization, visit its website.
