UL Warns of Potentially Hazardous Counterfeit Decorative Lighting Strings

NORTHBROOK, Ill., January 23, 2009 -- Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is notifying consumers that the decorative lighting strings, identified below, may pose a risk of electric shock and fire. These products have not been evaluated for safety by UL and bear a counterfeit UL Mark for the United States.

Name of Product: Designer Series 50 Clear Lights

Number of Units: Unknown quantity

Manufacturer: Longyan Zhenglin Machinery Mfg. Co. Ltd.

Date of Manufacture: Unknown.

Hazard: The decorative lighting strings are not constructed in compliance with UL's safety standard. These products may overheat, posing a risk of electric shock and fire.

Identification: The decorative lighting strings have a green cord and are packaged in a box labeled "Designer Series 50 Clear Lights."

On the product: The cord is provided with a tag with the following information:

Model No. ZL50

The cord also has a counterfeit UL holographic label containing the UL Mark with the following information:

What you should do: UL recommends that users stop using the product immediately and return it to the place of purchase.
