The Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks (SCHER) has released a final opinion on the migration limits of chromium VI in toys. Considering a 2008 study by the U.S. National Toxicology Program (NTP) on cancer occurrence, the following revised Chromium VI limits have been proposed:
- 0.0094 mg/kg for scraped-off toy materials;
- 0.0008 mg/kg for dry, (powder-like or pliable) toy materials; and
- 0.0002 mg/kg for liquid or sticky toy materials.
- The committee acknowledges that the proposed limits are “conservative” and possibly “not achievable” for certain toy materials.
