INMETRO Releases Ordinance for Regulation Baby Dummies

June 16, 2015

The Brazil-based National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) has released Ordinance Nº. 241 on May 18, 2015, establishing rules that prohibit the manufacture, import and/or marketing, throughout the national territory, of customized baby dummies.

These customized dummies are considered to be a safety risk to users with potential of suffocation resulting from aspiration or ingestion of small parts added to products by subsequent amendments to the original manufacturing process.

The Ordinance is open for public consultation until June 19, 2015. Date of adoption and enforcement is dependent on the results of the public consultation.
