Hawaii Health Department Proposes New Restaurant Food Safety Rules

December 18, 2013

The Hawaii State Department of Health has proposed new food safety rules for restaurants and other food establishments that will signify the first major change to its food safety regulation in 17 years.

Under the proposed rules, food establishments must post the results of their latest state inspection. The posting will follow this new grading system:

  • Green for PASS
  • Yellow for CONDITIONAL PASS
  • Red for CLOSED

Changes will also include fee increases that will provide funding for 13 additional inspectors and at least three on-site inspections.
