EU to Bans Five Parabens in Cosmetics

November 20, 2013

The European Commission (EC) is set to ban five parabens in all cosmetics products and personal care due to the concern for human use.

The five parabens to be removed are:

  • Isopropylparaben
  • Isobutylparaben
  • Phenylparaben
  • Benzylparaben
  • Pentylparaben

In addition, they are proposing to lower the allowed maximum concentrations of butyl-and propylparaben as well as to prohibit these in leave-on cosmetics designed for application in the nappy area and in cosmetics intended for children under three years of age.

The adoption of this amended regulation is January 2014.
