The ministerial decree no. 171/2020 of the Minister of Trade and Industry in Egypt announced the implementation of mandatory Egyptian standards for some electrical products.

Manufacturers and traders shall ensure that their products are in compliance with the following Egyptian Standards (ES):

ES 1781/2020: This standard specifies requirements for the safety of electrical appliances used for household and similar purposes, and its rated voltage is not more than 250 volts for single-phase devices and 480 volts for other devices. This standard is technically identical with modification with IEC 60335-1:2010/AMD2:2016.

ES 7823/2020: This standard establishes requirements for labeling and providing supplementary product information and energy efficiency requirements for electrical lamps. This standard is based on EU Commission Regulations No 874/2012 and No 1194/2012.

ES 5149-2/2020: This standard specifies classification, requirements and test conditions of refrigerated display cabinets. The standard is an adoption of ISO 23953-2:2015.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministerial decree no. 171/2020 published in the official gazette on April 9, 2020, allows for a transitional period of six months for the manufacturers and traders to comply with the above standards. Therefore, the enforcement date will be on Oct. 9, 2020.
