ECHA Releases Guidance on Natural Complex Substances; Updates Guide on Dossier Evaluation

EUROPEAN UNION  ̶  The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has announced the release of new guidelines that will provide assistance to industry on substance identification and sameness of natural complex substances (NCS), on compliance with Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), and with the Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP) requirements.

The most common NCS include the following:

  • Essential oils
  • Concretes and absolutes
  • Oleoresins and resinoids
  • CO2 extracts
  • Infusions and alcoholic extractsThe sector-specific document has been a product of collaboration between stakeholders, including the European Federation of Essential Oils (EFEO) and International Fragrance Association (IFRA), in consultation with the agency.
