ECHA Committee Finalizes D4 and D5 Restrictions

April 14, 2016

The European Chemicals Agency’s (ECHA) Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) has concurred with the proposal of the United Kingdom to place market restrictions for octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) and decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5).

The restrictions are mainly directed at personal care products and cleaning solutions, both of which contain high tonnage substances of the material that affects the aquatic environment of the EU.  The restriction follows the Risk Assessment Committee’s agreement with the United Kingdom that proposes wash-off personal care products not contain more than 0.1% of D4, or more than 0.1% of D5.
