EC Proposes Permission of Hair Dye Substances for Eyelashes

The European Commission (EC) has released a draft amendment to the cosmetics Regulation, specifically proposing the permission of use of several hair dye substances for coloring eyelashes, namely:

  • toluene-2,5-diamine
  • p-aminophenol
  • 2- methylresorcinol
  • tetraaminopyrimidine sulfate
  • hydroxyethyl-p-phenylenediamine sulfate
  • 2-amino-3-hydroxypyridine

The Commission has noted that these dyes should only be permitted for professional use, with proper warnings on their labels.
