DTSC Opens Consultation for the Use of Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFASs) in Carpets, Rugs, Upholstered Furniture, and their Care and Treatment Products

The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has announced the opening of the consultation period for the use of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances in the following:

  • Carpets
  • Rugs
  • Upholstered furniture

The consultation seeks to gather comment regarding the classification of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) as Candidate Chemicals. DTSC aims to understand the challenges and safety matters that these substances will bring when used.

The consultation period is from November 15, 2016 to December 30, 2016.
