The Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) of Japan announced a new food labeling regulation, requiring mandatory labeling of nutritional information on the packaging. The nutritional information includes the following:
- Energy
- Protein
- Lipids
- Carbohydrates
- Sodium
The new regulation also sets a transition period for the following food products:
- Food additives and processed foods: 5 years
- Fresh foods: 1 year and 6 months
Effective April 1, 2015, the regulation excludes small food businesses.
