PV frontsheet and backsheet testing
Photovoltaic (PV) frontsheets and backsheets are among the most important PV module components to consider for safety testing. They provide electrical insulation and protect the inner components of a PV module from extreme environmental stress factors encountered during the intended lifetime performance of the module. As PV systems push into higher-voltage applications, the chance for premature failures of the frontsheets and backsheets also increases, raising additional safety concerns. To address these concerns, the IEC further expanded its testing requirements to include mechanical, electrical and visual tests after environmental stress exposures, outlined under IEC 62788-2-1* and the revised second edition of IEC 62788-2*.
