ZDHC Releases Framework for Prioritizing Hazardous Chemicals in Textiles

January 24, 2014

The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Joint Roadmap has released a framework for prioritizing hazardous chemicals found in textiles, which acknowledges the need to evaluate chemicals in the apparel and footwear industry that will help in achieving zero discharge.

The framework released is composed of three work stream objectives:

  • Hazard Assessment and Prioritization - develop a transparent and validated process that will prioritize the immediate action on hazardous chemicals in the textile supply chain.
  • Phase Out Actions - develop a key action plan for the elimination or substitution of identified hazardous chemicals.
  • Research Actions – promote the research and development of safer alternatives for hazardous chemicals.
