Food and Drug Administration (FDA) rules for the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) include:
- Preventive controls for human food and preventive controls for animal food to be finalized by August 30, 2016
- Produce safety, the foreign supplier verification program, and third-party accreditation to be finalized by October, 31, 2016
- Sanitary transportation to be finalized March 31, 2016
- Intentional adulteration to be finalized by May 31, 2016
The Veterinary Feed Directive, requiring that the use of medically important antimicrobial drugs in animal feed and water be under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian, was proposed in December 2013 and was slated to be finalized in April, but it is now expected this month.The agenda also included FDA’s proposal to collect animal antibiotic sales data by species.
