Victoria State Government Implements New Raw Milk Law

February 18, 2015

As of January 1, 2015, the Australian State of Victoria prohibits the sale of raw milk labeled as “bath” milk starting unless it is pasteurized and includes a gag-inducing agent that will make it taste bitter to discourage consumption.

The initiative is in response to the hospitalization of several children due to severe E. coli and Cryptosporidium infections connection with consuming organic bath milk. Containers for these are similar to drinkable milk and typically placed on shelf near drinkable milk in stores.
