U.S. EPA Withdraws Draft BPA Rule

October 16, 2013

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has withdrawn two proposed rules, including one that would have added bisphenol A (BPA) and several phthalates to the "chemicals of concern" list under the Toxic Substances Control Act .

The first rule would have allowed the EPA to require chemical manufacturers to provide more information, both to the agency and the public, on several chemicals of particularly high health concern. The second rule would have clarified the EPA's policy regarding the ability of chemical manufacturers to claim certain chemical information as "confidential business information."
