TFDA Publishes Infant Formula Nutritional Labeling Requirements

TAIWAN - The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) has released Requirements for Nutritional Labeling of Infant and Follow-up Formula and Foods for Special Medical Purposes. The document provides labeling requirements for nutritional elements and sets the requirements for energy and nutrient content labeling, permitted units and acceptable error range. The document also states the need to include the following labels for infant formula:

  • Energy
  • Protein
  • Fat, saturated fat, trans fat, linoleic acid, α-gamma linolenic acid
  • Carbohydrate, sugar
  • Sodium
  • Water
  • Vitamin
  • Dietary fiber
  • Inositol
  • L-carnitine
  • Ash
  • Minerals (excluding Na) and microelements
  • Additional nutrients labeled by companies voluntarily

The new requirements are in effect beginning July 1, 2016.
