The South Africa Bureau of Standards (SABS) has consolidated the following standards for leather:
- SANS 699 (2016): Side Upper Leather - requirements for chrome-tanned bovine leather with a smooth or printed full grain, or smooth or printed corrected grain and intended for use as an upper material for footwear.
- SANS 701 (2016): Cordovan and Cordovan-type Leathers for Orthopaedic Use - genuine cordovan leather made from horsehide and cordovan-type leather made from sheepskins or bovine hides intended for orthopaedic use.
- SANS 705 (2016): Vegetable-tanned Harness and Bridle Leathers
The standards were approved on March 11, 2016.
