The European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) has released its opinion on dichloromethane. It has once again affirmed that the aforesaid solvent is unsafe for use in hair sprays, in a concentration up to 35%.
The reassessment of the substance was in response to the data regarding neurobehavioural effects and the exposure-related observations in humans, provided by the European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFFCI).
A public consultation is in effect through May 22, 2015.
