Rockland County Passes The Toxic Free Toys Act (United States)

The New York County of Rockland Legislature passed Local Law No. 3 of 2015 to protect infants and children from the harmful health effects of toxic chemicals found in children's products and apparel.

Introduced by Chairman of the Legislature Alden H. Wolfe, the law bans the sale of children's apparel or products including toys, primarily intended for, made for, or marketed for use by children aged twelve (12) and under containing the following chemicals:

  • Benzene
  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Antimony
  • Arsenic
  • Cadmium
  • Cobalt

The rule does not cover children's products sold second-hand or donated, as well as protective sports equipment designed to prevent injury.Health problems caused by these substances include cancer, developmental delay, respiratory issues, skin damage, hyperactivity and damage to the immune system.
