NHFPC Consults on the Release of the Standard Regarding Detergent

The National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China (NHFPC) are consulting the public on the release of a national standard regarding the use of detergent products with food products and food contact materials.

National Food Safety Standard: Detergent relates to food safety as it specifies two classes of detergent identified as:

  • Class A: Detergent used directly to wash and clean food
  • Class B: Detergent used to clean tableware and food contact tools, equipment, food packaging materials and containersThe public consultation is ends March 30, 2015.
  • The standard also discusses the general requirements for raw materials (surfactants, preservatives, colorants and essences), products (arsenic, heavy metals, methanol, formaldehyde, total plate count and coliforms) and labeling of detergents.
