New Zealand Issues Product Safety Standards for Children’s Nightwear

The Trading Standards, Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment of New Zealand has issued "Product Safety Standards (Children's Nightwear and Limited Daywear Having Reduced Fire Hazard) Regulations 2016," to address the flammability and safety-related issues that pertain to children's nightwear and limited daywear clothing.
The standard also provides garment classification in relation to their flammability and the appropriate warning labels to be affixed to each garment.  The standard is based on the adoption of the joint Australian/New Zealand standard AS/NZS 1249:2014 Children's nightwear and limited daywear having reduced fire hazard.
The target schedule of the enforcement of the standard is as follows:

  • End of Public Consultation: February 28, 2016
  • Proposed Date of Adoption: March 21, 2016
  • Proposed Date of Enforcement: March 21, 2016
