New EU Regulation for Infant Formula Protein Requirement

European Commission (EC) Directive 2013/46/EU amends Directive 2006/141/EC, releasing the protein requirements for infant formula and follow-up formula which are to be manufactured only from protein sources.

The protein sources as defined in the directive are:

  • Cow's milk proteins
  • Soya protein isolates, alone or in mixture
  • Protein hydrolysates

Member States of the European Union (EU) are required to apply the provisions of this Directive in national law by February 28, 2014.
