MFDS Proposes Changes to the Labelling Standards for Foods

South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of its ‘Proposed Revision of the "Labelling Standards for Foods".’

The notified document proposes the following changes, among others:

  • Labeling of definition of honey from sugar-fed bees must be more than 12 pt font size on the principal display panel
  • Establishment of provision of labelling on cautions and contents of flaxseed-used products
  • Establishment of labelling standard of enzyme contents of enzyme food
  • Revision of labelling target of name defined in the Food Additives Code and contents of food additives from chemical synthetics to complex ingredient
  • Establishment of a provision not only to observe the Food Labelling Standards but to observe other regulations of ingredient labelling method
