Korea Categorizes Wet Tissues as Cosmetics

September 23, 2014

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in Korea announced that it would include wet tissues for sanitation purpose as cosmetics to raise quality supervision. Currently, they are categorized as industrial products.

Concerns have recently risen as to potentially harmful chemicals being used in wet tissues. Once the proposal is passed, the producers of wet tissues should abide by the material usage standard for cosmetics. According to the current regulations, there are 1,013 kinds of prohibited materials for cosmetics and 260 materials for the limited use.

Additionally, only appropriate cosmetic products which pass the strict product quality tests can be sold in the market and providers should report side effects taking place when consumers use the products.
