Israel Revises Mandatory Standard for Gold Articles

March 10, 2016

The Government of Israel has notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of its revision to mandatory standard SI 299 – Testing and Marking of Gold Articles.

The changes include:

  • Addition of new requirement to mark fineness of all gold articles
  • Requirements for manufacturer, dealer and importer mark for gold articles heavier than 1.0 g
  • Addition of clarification to paragraph 8.2 dealing with mixed gold and non-gold articles, explaining in which parts the use non-gold metals is allowed.

The proposed date of adoption is pending. Both the previous version from April 2010 and the new revised standard will be in effect for 12 months beginning on the new standard’s date of entry into force. During this period of transition, gold articles may be tested to either standard.
