The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published two new standards for sunglasses to help manufacturers ensure that their products are effective and work as intended.
The two new standards are:
- ISO 12312-1:2013 Eye and face protection- Sunglasses and related eyewear- Part 1: Sunglasses for general use - states different requirements that a manufacturer should comply with, such as ensuring that their products will not cause vision impairments, or injuries to wearers as a result of sharp edges .
- ISO 12311:2013 Personal protective equipment-Test methods for sunglasses - provides specifications and instructions to be used in safety and performance testing that will help ensure product efficiency and reliability.
Together, the two standards will help provide further safety and reliability for consumers and will increase confidence in the global marketplace.
