ISO and IEC Update Guidance Document for Product Safety Concerning Children

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) have updated their guidance document for product safety concerning children. ISO/IEC Guide 50 marks the third edition of the guidance document and includes the following changes:

  • Clarification that the Guide is intended for standards developers, but that it can also be used by other stakeholders
  • Expansion of a clause outlining the relationship between child development, behavior and unintentional harm
  • New structure of a clause on hazards and inclusion of new hazards
  • Addition of a new clause dealing with the adequacy of safeguards
