Ireland Enforces New Rules for Country of Origin Labeling

April 20, 2015

Ireland has signed into law new rules for country of origin labeling on packaged meat products, effective April 1, 2015. The new rule is applicable to food business operators, including processors, retailers and butcher shops to ensure that country of origin labeling information is available to their customers who purchase packaged meat products. The law represents a step towards providing more detailed information on meat products to the Irish market.

The new rules address meat from poultry, pigs, sheep and goats and supplement the existing rules that are already in place for beef.
