Brazil’s National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) has opened a public consultation to gather information on the proposed prohibited marketing or sale of jewelry containing more than 0.01% of cadmium or 0.03% of lead.
The restriction would cover jewelries for both adults and children. Testing records from accredited laboratories regarding lead and cadmium concentrations in their products shall be required from manufacturers and/or importers.
The comment period ends March 30, 2015. If enacted, it will be enforced upon its official publication.
