The State Legislature of Illinois has introduced House Bill 3495 amending the Food Handling Regulation Enforcement Act. The amendment proposes the addition of Section 5 which would require restaurants to post food allergen information as specified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition, the proposed amendment would:
- Require restaurants to be aware of food allergy recalls from the FDA;
- Require restaurants to indicate on a placard, poster, or menu that consumers with food allergies should inform a restaurant waiter or waitress of their allergy; and
- Establish requirements for the placard, poster or menu information.
