Health Canada is consulting the public on the proposed regulation for self-care products in the country. Self-care products are defined as products that can be directly purchase without a doctor’s prescription, including the following:
- Over-the-counter drugs
- Natural health products
The consultation seeks comments for the following approaches:
- Products of similar risk profiles would be treated in a similar manner.
- The federal government would review health claims based on a new definition.
- A risk-based approach to compliance and safety monitoring will continue.
The consultation is open from September 7 to October 24, 2016.
