FTC Releases Enforcement Policy on the Marketing Claims for OTC Homeopathic Drugs

December 13, 2016

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) released Enforcement Policy Statement on Marketing Claims for OTC Homeopathic Drugs on November 15, 2016.

The enforcement policy establishes guidance with regards to the enforcement policy with respect to marketing claims for over-the-counter (OTC) homeopathic drugs. The policy also explains that the FTC will hold efficacy and safety claims for OTC homeopathic drugs to the same standard as other products making similar claims.

This policy covers OTC products intended solely for self-limiting disease conditions amenable to self-diagnosis of symptoms and treatment.
