FDA Releases ANPRM for Nicotine Exposure Warnings and Child-Resistant Packaging for Liquid Nicotine and Other Tobacco Products

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Health and Human Services (HHS) has released Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) , seeking comments, data, research results, or other information that may inform regulatory actions FDA might take with respect to nicotine exposure warnings and child-resistant packaging for liquid nicotine and nicotine-containing e liquid(s) that are made or derived from tobacco and intended for human consumption.

The ANPRM is applicable for the following products:

  • Tobacco products and liquid nicotine. Unmanufactured tobacco; tobacco refuse
  • Cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes, of tobacco or of tobacco substitutes
  • Other manufactured tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes; “homogenized” or “reconstituted” tobacco; tobacco extracts and essences
  • Tobacco, tobacco products and related equipmentThe ANPRM is open for public comment until August 31, 2015.
