The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a statement extending the compliance date for the menu labeling rule for restaurants and other retail food establishments.
The final rule specifies that the disclosure of certain nutrition information for standard menu items in certain restaurants and retail food establishments is required. The date for compliance on the final rule is now December 1, 2016.
FDA also released draft guidance based on frequently asked and crosscutting questions that the agency has received to further assist establishments with compliance. The draft guidance is targeted for release in August 2015.
The labeling rule was originally released in December 2014.
