MERCOSUR Resolution on Food-Contact Cellulosic Materials and Packaging

On April 24, 2025, the Common Market Group (Grupo Mercado Común – GMC) enacted Mercosur/GMC/Res. No 02/25 Modification of GMC Resolution No. 40/15 "Mercosur Technical Regulation on Cellulosic Materials, Packaging and Equipment Intended to be in Contact with Food."

On April 24, 2025, the Common Market Group (Grupo Mercado Común – GMC) enacted Mercosur/GMC/Res. No 02/25 Modification of GMC Resolution No. 40/15 "Mercosur Technical Regulation on Cellulosic Materials, Packaging and Equipment Intended to be in Contact with Food."

This GMC Resolution revises GMC Res. 40/15 by replacing subsection f) point 1.2 of Part II of the Annex to GMC Res. 40/15 with the following text: "The diisopropylnaphthalene (DIPN) content in the finished product that uses recycled fibers in its production must be as low as technically feasible."

This Resolution must be incorporated into the legal systems of the Member States before Oct. 21, 2025.
