Egypt Notifies WTO on the Ministerial Decree for the Safety Requirements of Toys

On March 5, 2015, the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS) has notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the issuance of Ministerial Decree No. 134/2014 mandating Egyptian Standard ES 7093/2014, "Essential Requirements for Safety of Toys," for toy producers and importers.

The Standard, which complies with 2009/48/EC, specifies the essential requirements for the following test for toys:

  • Mechanical and physical properties
  • Flammability and chemical properties
  • Hygiene
  • Electrical properties
  • Radioactivity

The Ministerial Decree is open for public comment for 60 days from date of notification.
