EC Releases Gelatin Products Regulation

The European Commission (EC) has issued Commission Regulation (EU) 2016/355, as regards the Specific Requirements for Gelatine, Collagen and Highly Refined Products of Animal Origin intended for Human Consumption.  It amends Annex III of Regulation No. 853/2004, and includes the following residue limits for gelatine and collagen:

  • Arsenic: 1 ppm
  • Lead: 5 ppm
  • Cadmium: 0.5 ppm
  • Mercury: 0.15 ppm
  • Chromium: 10 ppm
  • Copper: 30 ppm
  • Zinc: 50 ppm
  • Sulfur dioxide: 50 ppm
  • Hydrogen peroxide: 10 ppm

Published March 11, the regulation became effective on April 1, 2016.
