EC Draft Amendment to Annex XVII Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 for Articles Placed in Mouth by Children

October 21, 2014

The European Commission (EC) has proposed an amendment of Annex XVII to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) as regards lead and its compounds for articles being place in mouth by children.

The proposed amended regulation states that articles shall not be placed on the market or used in articles supplied to the general public, if the concentration of lead (expressed as metal) in those articles or accessible parts thereof is equal to or greater than 0.05% by weight, and those articles or accessible parts thereof may, during normal or reasonably foreseeable conditions of use, be placed in the mouth by children.
