EC Draft Amendment Annex I to Regulation (EC) No 1334/2008 for Food Flavoring Substances

The European Commission (EC) has proposed an amendment to Annex I to Regulation (EC) No 1334/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council in regards to the removal of certain food flavoring substances from the Union List.

Previously evaluated by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), this amendment concerns the removal of the following five substances:

  • 1-Methylnaphthalene
  • Furfuryl methyl ether
  • Difurfuryl sulfide
  • Difurfuryl ether
  • Ethyl furfuryl ether

Foods containing the five flavoring substances mentioned in the Annex to this Regulation which are lawfully placed on the market or labelled prior to nine months after the entry into force of this Regulation which do not comply with Part A of Annex I to Regulation No 1334/2008, may be marketed until their date of minimum durability or use by date.

The proposed date of adoption of this regulation is on November 27, 2014 and the proposed date of publication is on January 2015.
